Connecting Poplar People Transport Club

The Connecting Poplar People Transport Club aims to help residents of Poplar who have difficulty getting out by putting them in touch with volunteer drivers and escorts in their community and accessible minibuses. With our help participants will choose a range of trips, either ‘day out’ type excursions or door to door transport to local activities

If you know someone who is isolated and would benefit from this opportunity then we’d love to hear from you.

Would you like to help your community as well as learning professional driving and escort skills that can lead to employment?

The Connecting Poplar People Transport Club is looking for people who will volunteer as minibus drivers and escorts to take groups of residents on local trips and longer excursions.

THCT will provide FREE Accessible Minibus Driver Awareness Training normally worth at least £100. Escorts can access our Passenger Assistant Training. You also get expenses for travel and food when you volunteer. All that we ask is that you volunteer at least two days as a driver or escort over the next year (although we think you’ll find it so rewarding you’ll want to do more!)

The MIDAS training in itself a nationally recognised qualification which can open up employment opportunities and we can provide links to further training and support. Participants need to be 21 or over and have had a driving licence for two years.

Read on for more details of our training.
